When you think of croquettes, you probably think of something crispy, indulgent, and maybe even a little bit of a guilty pleasure.
But today I want to show you that croquettes can also be healthier — without sacrificing flavor.
These Tuna Croquettes with Spinach are delicious, nourishing, and perfect as a snack, lunch, or side dish.
The combination of tuna, herbs, soft bread texture, and fresh spinach makes them soft on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside.
And the best part?
You only need a handful of simple ingredients!
π§ Ingredients
For the tuna croquettes:
2 cans tuna (drained)
1 soft bread roll or 2 slices white bread
1 egg (for binding)
A handful of fresh spinach, finely chopped
Garlic powder
Ginger
Salt
Optional: your favorite herbs and spices
For the coating:
2 eggs (beaten)
Breadcrumbs
Paprika powder
A pinch of salt
For frying:
Oil (in a saucepan or frying pan)
π©π½π³ Method
1️⃣ Make the tuna mixture
Drain the tuna well and place it in a bowl.
Add the bread in small pieces and mix it through the tuna.
Add 1 egg to bind everything together.
Season with:
garlic powder
salt
ginger
and any herbs you love
Mix until everything is well combined.
2️⃣ Add the spinach
Finely chop a handful of fresh spinach and mix it into the tuna mixture.
This adds:
✔ extra nutrients
✔ moisture
✔ and a fresh flavor
3️⃣ Shape the croquettes
Take a portion of the mixture and shape it into a small sausage — just like a classic croquette.
Set them aside while you prepare the coating.
4️⃣ Coat the croquettes
Beat the 2 eggs in one bowl.
In another plate, mix:
breadcrumbs
paprika powder
a pinch of salt
Dip each croquette:
first into the beaten egg
then into the breadcrumb mixture
π For extra crispiness, repeat this step once more.
5️⃣ Fry until golden
Heat oil in a frying pan or saucepan.
Fry the croquettes until they are golden brown on all sides.
They are ready when they look crispy and deep golden in color.
π§ Why these croquettes work
Tuna provides protein
Spinach adds nutrients and moisture
Bread keeps the inside soft
Proper seasoning keeps the flavor balanced
Healthy doesn’t have to mean boring π
